When Lucy Kaigutha visited West Pokot for a field study, she came face to face with the challenges new mothers from poor backgrounds experience, which put them and their babies at risk. A few years later, she chanced upon a concept that helped reduce maternal and infant deaths in Finland and she strived to replicate it in Kenya.
