Low-carbohydrate weight-loss diets, where dieters rely mainly on protein, may clog arteries and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, according to scientists in the US. It is thought they somehow affect the way bone marrow cells clear away fatty deposits. The researchers advice? Eat a balanced diet that is around one-third carbohydrates, such as rice, potatoes and pasta.
