Wake up beautiful: 10 WAKE UP steps to becoming a real sleeping beauty

Published

on

A good night’s sleep goes a long way to rejuvenate your body. Damaged cells, including skin cells, are repaired, the immune system is revitalised and your energy and brainpower are recharged as you sleep. There are, however, a few simple habits that you can adopt to beautify yourself as you sleep, especially after battles with sun damage, air pollution, stress and aging. Here are a few tips to waking up with a morning glow.

1. Get enough sleep

Sleeping too little not only inhibits your productivity and ability to remember and consolidate information, but also leads to serious health consequences. These health consequences more often than not show on your skin. The presence of puffy eyes or under-eye circles is a telltale sign of this and not a good look on anyone. Studies suggest that healthy adults have a basal sleep need of seven to eight hours every night. Strive to maintain these to get optimum rest. Also ensure that you get quality sleep by avoiding and minimising stress factors as much as you can.

2. Get a quality pillow

Your pillow should be comfortable enough to conform to the shape of your head and neck for customised support. Get a pillow that supports your sleeping habits, is big enough and has a good filling. Fluff your pillow each time you make your bed and place it in an area where there is fresh air to increase its lifespan. Also buy a cover for your pillow to go on before the pillowcase to protect you from allergens and dust mites. This way you can get the most comfort out of it and wake up feeling rested.

3. Sleep on your back

Wrinkles usually form on the side of the face that you sleep on. Getting into the habit of sleeping flat on your back is the best sleep position to reduce wrinkles.

4. Cleanse, tone and moisturize

Do this twice a day, in the morning before you put on makeup, and at night before you go to bed to give your skin a chance to heal and breath overnight without being clogged by dirt or make up. Get a reputable brand of products for this. This process will only take about 20 minutes of your day, 10 in the morning and 10 in the evening but will leave your skin looking radiant all the time.

5. Don’t sleep with make-up on

This one has been repeated time and time again. Left-on make-up damages your skin in the long run by clogging the pores that emit sebum, which may cause acne. It may also cause irritations and infections. Avoid sleeping in any make-up no matter how tired you feel. Use a gentle facial cleanser, make-up remover or cotton ball dipped in warm water to remove the make-up. Also, always wash your face before you sleep, whether or not you had make-up on, to rid yourself of dirt that collects on your face and tends to clog your pores.

6. Deal with acne

Treat pimples at bedtime with a product containing an antibacterial ingredient like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid that can dry them up while you sleep. If these are not available to you, a dab of toothpaste also works in the same way. Resist the urge to pop pimples.

7. Treat your lips

Avoid peeling, chapped lips in the morning by gently scrubbing them with a soft-bristle toothbrush and applying some petroleum jelly or moisturising lip balm after brushing your teeth and before getting under the covers.

8. Treat your hands and feet

Prevent chipped nails and cuticles on your hands by rubbing them with some olive oil before bedtime. To soften rough hands or feet, use petroleum jelly, cocoa butter or shea butter on them. If you can, you could also sleep in light gloves and socks.

9. Protect your hair

Comb your hair before you sleep and have it in an appropriate hairstyle for sleep. Tying a loose ponytail or wrapping it around works for most people. Sleep in a headscarf to keep your hair in place, make your hairstyle last longer and prevent it from tangling up, getting knotty or picking pieces of fluff from your beddings. It will also protect your beddings from oil and dirt. Tie it tight enough to stay in place as you sleep but not too tight as to be constricting.

10. Eat a healthy diet

Maintain a healthy diet that includes fruit, vegetables, protein, and enough water – at least six to eight glasses of water to keep your skin supple. Avoid eating at least an hour before you sleep.

Elizabeth Nzisa: The Firstborn Who Became a Mother Overnight

Published

on

While most teenagers spend their days focused on school, friendships, and dreams for the future, Elizabeth Nzisa, fondly known as Shiku, was forced to grow up much faster than she ever imagined. At only 17 years old, she found herself taking on the role of a mother to her three younger siblings after her family was hit by tragedy not once, but twice.

Her story, shared in an emotional interview, is a powerful reflection of strength, sacrifice and the deep bond between siblings. Elizabeth recalls the moment her life changed completely. Her mother died while giving birth to their youngest sibling, a baby boy. In the middle of that painful loss, their father walked away from the family, leaving Elizabeth alone with a newborn and two other young children to care for.

Mama yetu alipass 2024, Feb. Alipass akipata haka katoto kadogo. Dad naye akatuacha akaenda

Becoming a Mother Too Soon

She explains that she had no choice but to step up and become the parent in the house. She raised her youngest brother from the day he was born, and to this day he calls her mum, not knowing she is actually his big sister. That detail alone shows how much responsibility she carried at such a young age. She became the provider, the protector, the caregiver, and the emotional support for her siblings while she was still trying to understand life herself. With little help from relatives, Elizabeth had to find ways to survive, balancing school when she could, doing small jobs and making sure her siblings were fed, safe and loved.

The journey was not easy. She faced financial struggles, emotional exhaustion, and the pressure of trying to stay strong even when she felt overwhelmed. There were moments when she doubted herself and wondered if she was doing enough. Still, her story is not about defeat. It is about endurance. Elizabeth talks about finding strength through faith, support from the people around her, and the determination to keep her family together no matter how hard things became.

Over the years, she made sure her siblings stayed in school, had food on the table, and grew up feeling loved despite everything they had lost. What could have been a completely broken home became a family held together by her sacrifice and commitment.

Many viewers reacted emotionally, saying the story moved them to tears. Some described firstborn daughters as second mothers, while others said her life shows the kind of courage people rarely see but should never forget.

Endometriosis and sex: How to make intimacy pain-free

Published

on

There is no doubt that endometriosis can affect a woman’s way of life. The condition slews a couple of conditions, painful sex being one of them. Penetration pulls and pushes any tissue growth behind the vagina and lower uterus.

Although symptoms may differ from woman to woman, here are some things you can do to lessen your pain and ensure you have some good time:

Take a dose of painkillers

Take an over the counter painkiller that sits well with your body before intercourse and incase pain persists, take another one as prescribed.

Track your cycle and try at certain times of the month

Most women with endometriosis experience excruciating pain during their period and ovulation. Keep track of your cycle so that you can know when you are ovulating. You can use apps like my calendar and flo period tracker to track your periods. This will help you know when best to engage in sexual intercourse.

Use lube

Vaginal dryness is not something to be ashamed of and if you happen to have it, lube should be your best buddy. Make sure to use any silicon or water based lubricant anytime you feel like your vagina is dry. Ensure the application is of good amount to achieve a wet area.

Explore alternatives

Talk with your partner about things that turn you on and bring you pleasure. Just to mention a few; mutual masturbation, foreplay, kissing and mutual fondling. Sex does not have to mean intercourse.

Try different positions

Experimenting different positions can teach you and your partner which ones hurt and the ones that bring direct pleasure with no or less pain. Positions that are considered better vary from person to person so take the time to explore and learn yourself with your partner.

Find the right rhythm

Finding the right rhythm can help you experience less discomfort during sex. Quick thrusting or deep penetration can aggravate pain. Talk to your partner about that which you do not like and find ways that will satisfy the both of you like exchanging positions so that you can control the speed and rhythm.

Bottom line

Intimacy does not have to be boring, painful or make you hate the condition that you have. Talk openly about your feelings around sex and penetration and what would help to ease your concerns.
