The beauty diet: Foods for healthy skin and hair

Beauty as well known to many, is in the eyes of the beholder. It is also said that we are what we eat. Food contains many of the beauty ingredients that have been used over the years to enhance beauty. Inasmuch as there is no magic food that will keep us looking young forever, diet affects your natural beauty in most cases.

To achieve that glossy hair, skin glow and strong nails, foods rich in protein top the list. This is because hair, nails and skin are made up of similar protein cells. Keratin, collagen and elastin are proteins that provide strength and elasticity. Here are some of the foods you can eat to enhance your beauty from inside out.

1.Salmon

Salmon is loaded with vitamin D, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, iron and zinc.

Omega -3 fatty acids protect the skin from sun damage, give health to the scalp, prevent hair loss and strengthen the nails. Iron helps the hair to look more vibrant.

2.Carrots

Carrots contain beta-carotene which turn into vitamin A antioxidant known to contain its anti-aging properties that nurture the skin and keep it young hence the glow, strong and smooth nails and healthy hair. Beta-carotene can also be found in spinach, broccoli, peas and romaine lettuce.

3.Eggs

This tasty snack is packed with a protein punch that is easily digestible. They also have vitamin A, E, iron, vitamin B7 and vitamin B12. Vitamin A promotes healthy hair, nail growth and is equipped with anti-aging properties. Vitamin E goes a long way to protect the skin against harmful UV sun rays, keep the skin glow.

Vitamin E keeps the hair shiny, fuller and with strong strands. Vitamin B7 helps improve your nail health and hair strength while vitamin B12 maintains the hair colour, keeping it more vibrant.

4.Low-fat dairy

These products contain calcium and vitamin D, a combination that helps strengthen nails and promote hair growth. Skim milk, low-fat yoghurt and cheese give a nice boost of both.

Soy milk is also a good source of calcium and vitamin D.

5.Oatmeal

There’s nothing as tasty in the morning as a bowl of oatmeal. This meal contains copper, zinc and B vitamins.

These nutrients all work together to keep your nails healthy. Zinc is a powerful tool in fighting acne hence a glow and smooth skin. It reduces inflammation and kills acne.

6.Beans

Beans are the most magical protein fruit ever. The more you eat the stronger your nails become. They have biotin, zinc and protein. These nutrients tend to make your nails stronger and protect them from splitting.

Beans also enhance your hair by combating biotin deficiencies. Most legumes are high in protein zinc and antioxidants which boost collagen production giving your skin elasticity and a healthy glow.

7.Blueberries

They have the highest antioxidant properties of all fruits and vegetables. They give anti-aging properties that enhance the skin’s glow and also combat acne.

You can take it as a snack at any given time or better still top it with your breakfast oatmeal.

8.Tomatoes

Tomatoes have powerful antioxidants that have a bunch of benefits for your skin. They are also loaded with vitamin C, beta-carotene, lycopene alongside carotenoids. All these works together to protect the skin.

Carotenoids increase your skin protection from harmful UV rays that cause sunburns, especially when combined with vitamin E. A better way to get a slice of both is with a Caprese salad- sliced tomatoes, basil and mozzarella accompanied with olive oil.

9.Water and other fluids

Good hydration is not only good for your overall health but also essential for a smooth and flawless skin.

Elizabeth Nzisa: The Firstborn Who Became a Mother Overnight

While most teenagers spend their days focused on school, friendships, and dreams for the future, Elizabeth Nzisa, fondly known as Shiku, was forced to grow up much faster than she ever imagined. At only 17 years old, she found herself taking on the role of a mother to her three younger siblings after her family was hit by tragedy not once, but twice.

Her story, shared in an emotional interview, is a powerful reflection of strength, sacrifice and the deep bond between siblings. Elizabeth recalls the moment her life changed completely. Her mother died while giving birth to their youngest sibling, a baby boy. In the middle of that painful loss, their father walked away from the family, leaving Elizabeth alone with a newborn and two other young children to care for.

Becoming a Mother Too Soon

She explains that she had no choice but to step up and become the parent in the house. She raised her youngest brother from the day he was born, and to this day he calls her mum, not knowing she is actually his big sister. That detail alone shows how much responsibility she carried at such a young age. She became the provider, the protector, the caregiver, and the emotional support for her siblings while she was still trying to understand life herself. With little help from relatives, Elizabeth had to find ways to survive, balancing school when she could, doing small jobs and making sure her siblings were fed, safe and loved.

The journey was not easy. She faced financial struggles, emotional exhaustion, and the pressure of trying to stay strong even when she felt overwhelmed. There were moments when she doubted herself and wondered if she was doing enough. Still, her story is not about defeat. It is about endurance. Elizabeth talks about finding strength through faith, support from the people around her, and the determination to keep her family together no matter how hard things became.

Over the years, she made sure her siblings stayed in school, had food on the table, and grew up feeling loved despite everything they had lost. What could have been a completely broken home became a family held together by her sacrifice and commitment.

Use lube

Vaginal dryness is not something to be ashamed of and if you happen to have it, lube should be your best buddy. Make sure to use any silicon or water based lubricant anytime you feel like your vagina is dry. Ensure the application is of good amount to achieve a wet area.

Explore alternatives

Talk with your partner about things that turn you on and bring you pleasure. Just to mention a few; mutual masturbation, foreplay, kissing and mutual fondling. Sex does not have to mean intercourse.

Try different positions

Experimenting different positions can teach you and your partner which ones hurt and the ones that bring direct pleasure with no or less pain. Positions that are considered better vary from person to person so take the time to explore and learn yourself with your partner.

Find the right rhythm

Finding the right rhythm can help you experience less discomfort during sex. Quick thrusting or deep penetration can aggravate pain. Talk to your partner about that which you do not like and find ways that will satisfy the both of you like exchanging positions so that you can control the speed and rhythm.

Intimacy does not have to be boring, painful or make you hate the condition that you have. Talk openly about your feelings around sex and penetration and what would help to ease your concerns.
